BEHIND THE NAME
RIVI GOLF
RI-VEE’
Long before RIVI Golf, there was Riviera.
Growing up in San Clemente, CA, the locals called it Rivi. It wasn't one of the surf breaks tourists came looking for, Rivi was a local spot…a sandbar break that, on the right day, could produce steep, fast barrels.
But what I remember most isn't a particular wave.
It's the people.
You'd walk down the stairs with a board and a towel and spend the entire day there. The people in the water were your friends, locals and familiar faces. You surfed together, hung out on the beach together, and when another set rolled in, you paddled back out.
There wasn't much else you needed.
Years later, when I started creating a different kind of golf experience in Southport, I kept coming back to that feeling.
A place you belonged.
A place you wanted to spend time.
A place shared with people who loved the same thing you did.
So when it needed a name, I went back to Rivi.
Riviera, San Clemente became RIVI Golf, Southport.
The surf influence you'll see throughout RIVI isn't a theme we created for a golf studio.
It's where RIVI came from.
